  • Health Insurance Payments For Podiatry

A frequently asked question from patients is " Will you provide a detailed receipt for me , so that I can claim my treatment back from my insurer?" Well over the years we have found that different insurers have different criteria for determining how they make payments towards podiatry treatment. Fortunately some insurers make it simple. My experience has shown that where a patient pays for the treatment direct to myself, I am able to provide directly to the patient an invoice stating the treatment received and confirming that payment was made directly by the patient. My invoice states the business address, my qualification and critically my HCPC registration number. It is important to note that the HCPC REGISTRATION is recognised as a mark of confidence in professional standards applied by a practitioner. Not just by the patient but by organisations such as insurers. You should check with your insurer prior to treatment as to whether you will have your payment reimbursed. Don't forget that when you make payments we are able to take most cards as well as cash and even in 2020 the very, very occasional cheque!!! Whether you are reclaiming from insurance or not we will always be pleased to provide you with a receipt or invoice for your podiatry treatment.

  • February Foot Health at Deva Podiatry

As we leave the long cold month of January I realised that for most of the month I was hearing Vegan-uary more frequently than January. October is often known as Stop-tober in recognition of one campaign and Mo-vember is now well established as the month that many men grow a moustache in support of mens health. It got me thinking that as I launch my new website for devapodiatry.com in time for February 1st it was a perfect opportunity to utilise www.instagram.com/devapodiatry and publish throughout the month a range of information with the intention of promoting good foot health. As we move out of the long dark cold winter months refreshing the house through spring cleaning or assessing the garden for spring chores move to the front of the mind. Unfortunately, your poor old feet that have spent the winter in hibernation wrapped up in socks or slippers tend to be the last thing on your mind. Fear not , look out for the regular instagram posts of Deva Podiatry Foot Health Clinic, Chester and hopefully you will find some really useful tips on caring for and maintaining your feet.

  • What does HCPC registered actually mean?

Upon qualification as a podiatrist you are required by law to register with the HCPC ( Health and Care Professionals Council). My registration Is CH32605. If you cannot find reference to your foot clinician it is highly likely that they are not qualified in podiatry, but may have attended short courses in foot health maintenance. Most professions are registered within a professional body. Podiatrists are professional practitioners of Podiatry. In a previous post I mentioned that for most of the 20th Century we were known as Chiropodists and the profession was known as Chiropody. My professional body is called the College Of Podiatry. Its name was changed in 2016/17 in an attempt to move towards the international name for Chiropody. You may have seen examples of Chiropody / Podiatry / Foot Health Clinics stating that they are "State Registered". This again is a throwback to times past when many health professionals would use this term as recognition of being on the register of the Council for Professions Supplementary to Medicine ( CPSM), a body founded in 1961. In 2001, The HCPC was created in recognition that many health professions had developed into specific areas of medicine and there was a need to modernise and simplify the registration under one overarching body. For piece of mind any member of the public can research the status of a health professional by accessing the HCPC website at www.hcpc-uk.org and searching for the practitioners registration. If in doubt, look for the logo displayed at the premises or on literature. We display the HCPC registered logo and College Of Podiatry logo with pride on our website footer pages at devapodiatry.com, On facebook at facebook.com/devapodiatry . Instagram page at instagram.com/devapodiatry. or via google my business where you will find map details and locations for Deva Podiatry Foot Health Clinic , Chester at google.com/maps/place/DevaPodiatry .

  • The 3 Questions I Get Asked The Most. Lets Try And Clear Up The Confusion !

What is a Podiatrist? Podiatry is the field of medicine where the practitioner is known as a Podiatrist. Our specialism is the knowledge of the foot and lower-limb function and health. We are trained to degree level and receive our qualification in Podiatric medicine. Once qualified it is a requirement to register with the regulating body for Health Care Professionals. In the United Kingdom the regulating body is called the HCPC. A registered Podiatrist can be searched on the register of the HCPC and will display within their clinic and literature their registration number and the recognised logo of the HCPC. My HCPC registration number is CH32605. In addition I am a member of The College of Podiatry a body that sets academic and clinical standards, promotes research and education and raises awareness of foot health. Are you like a Chiropodist? Yes we are. In fact in reality both names refer to the same profession. Around the world the word Podiatrist has been the accepted title. In the UK, Chiropodist was the more common title. In the 1990's British Academic institutions moved to bring the UK in line with the rest of the world. Many Podiatrists who have qualified since the 1990's use their qualification to specialise in specific areas of Podiatry for example, advanced wound care, biomechanics or rehabilitation. And finally, So what do you actually do? A Podiatrist is trained to, diagnose, treat and prevent complications and conditions of the foot and lower limb. We can also prevent, correct and manage irregularities of the foot, treat infection and assist people of all ages and activity to remain mobile. If you cannot manage your feet at home it may be time to consult with a HCPC registered Podiatrist.
